Our Practice
Jenkins, Newman & Shipley Law Professional Corporation was originally established as Jenkins & Newman in 1992. The firm was created as a collaborative effort between Mr. Thomas Newman and Mrs. Jennifer Jenkins. Both lawyers were dedicated to their respective estates practices and wanted to build a firm which would allow them to restrict their focus to this area of the law.
We pride ourselves on our focus and dedication as a Wills & Estates boutique firm, and are proud to serve the Durham Region and beyond.

Services provided:
- Estate administration including applications for probate with or without a Will;
- Proving a Will in Solemn Form;
- Applications for Ancillary Certificates & Re-Sealing re: probate granted outside of Ontario;
- Advising clients concerning their duties, rights and obligations required in an estate or trust administration;
- Assisting Estate Trustees with distribution of an estate or trust;
- Advising beneficiaries on their entitlements;
- Assisting estate trustees with the administration of estates and passing accounts;
- Advising estate trustees, executors/personal representatives, trustees, beneficiaries and family members regarding estate and trust related issues and disputes;
- Passing of Accounts for Estate Trustees, Guardians and Attorneys;
- Estate planning including drafting Wills, powers of attorney, trusts and probate planning;
- Interpretation of wills and trusts; and
- Applications for the appointment of guardians for adults and minors; and
- Assisting clients with matters involving the Office of the Public Guardian and Trustee and the Office of the Children's Lawyer in Ontario.
Our Team
Sarah Shipley
Sarah grew up in Durham and lived in the Whitby area for over 20 years, but now lives in Clarington.
Sarah obtained her law degree from the University of Essex in Colchester, England in 2006 and was called to the Ontario bar in 2009 and has restricted her practice to Wills and Estates since 2011 when she joined Jenkins & Newman.

- Durham Region Law Association;
- Council to the Ontario Bar Association;
- Executive member of the Ontario Bar Association's Sole, Small Firm and General Practice section; and
- Volunteer with Durham Region Youth Justice Committee (2007 - 2016).

Jennifer Jenkins (Counsel)
Jennifer received an Honours B.A. in 1978 from the University of Toronto and LL.B. in 1981 from University of Western Ontario. Jennifer was called to the Ontario Bar in 1983.
Jennifer has been a frequent guest speaker and contributor over the years for the Canadian Bar Association and the Law Society of Upper Canada.
Jennifer also co-authored the book: “Compensation and Duties of Estate Trustees, Guardians and Attorneys” which is published by Canada Law Book and updated on an annual basis. The book was co-authored with Jennifer’s husband, H. Mark Scott.
